Bach himself transcribed the entire Partita for lute (BWV 1006a), and he orchestrated and transposed this piece (into D major) for the opening Sinfonia to the cantata BWV 29. The latter is the basis for several later transcriptions, including several by organists (Marcel Dupré, Michael Murray, etc.) and pianists (Sergei Rachmaninoff). The Sinfonia introduced much of the world to the Moog synthesizer as the opening work on the 1968 Switched-On Bach album. |
